Golfers jostle for honour at Ikeja Captain’s Day tourney

Akahi TutorsMembers and friends of the Ikeja Golf Club will on Monday take to the greens in honour of the club’s captain, Jibola Awoseyi, whose tenure is coming to an end.
The week-long activities marking the captain’s end of tenure will begin with the Caddies taking turns on the course, while a gala night will round off the event, the officials said.
The event, which is already the talk within the club and its environs, will also see invited golf professionals and club-based counterparts, as well as veteran golfers, taking part in the competition on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, lady golfers and guests will have their day on the course, while a special Captain’s Kitty is slated for Thursday.

It will be the turn of men on Friday, just as the golf ball strikers are expected to return on Saturday for Day -2 of the men’s competition before the closing ceremony fixed for the evening.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Awoseyi thanked all golfers, who will be part of the competition for their support since he took over as the captain of the club.
The captain who said it has been a wonderful experience, ascribed his success to the overwhelming support of the members, saying he believes the incoming captain will also enjoy the same support.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. It’s been wonderful being captain here. I have enjoyed the presence of the elders and the young ones. Of course without them you can achieve much,” Awoseyi said.
The captain, who has been described as a success, said the credit should be given to members for their support.
“It is not about me, but about the members. I couldn’t have done anything without them,” he emphasized.
