The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has met and prayed for the British Prime Minister, David Cameron. At the Festival of Life on Friday, organised by the United Kingdom’s chapter of the RCCG in London with the theme, ‘In Christ Alone,’ the church leader was seen seated with the UK prime minister in pictures posted on Adeboye’s Facebook page and that of the RCCG UK.
Cameron is seeking re-election in the coming general elections in the UK on May 7 this year.
The event which was regarded, by the church, as Europe’s largest Christian gathering kicked off at 8pm.
Two weeks ago, in his Easter message to British citizens, Cameron had called the UK a Christian country, urging its citizens to keep demonstrating neighbourly love.
He said, “(It is) time to reflect on the part that Christianity plays in our national life. The Church is not just a collection of beautiful old buildings; it is a living, active force doing great works across our country. When people are homeless, the Church is there with hot meals and shelter. When people are addicted or in debt; when people are suffering, or grieving — the Church is there.
“Across Britain, Christians don’t just talk about ‘loving thy neighbour’, they live it out in faith schools, in prisons, in community groups. And it’s for all these reasons that we should feel proud to say: this is a Christian country. Yes, we are a nation that embraces, welcomes and accepts all faiths and none but we are still a Christian country.”
In February this year, ahead of the presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan visited Adeboye for prayers.
During the church service while giving a speech, Jonathan stated that he did not.
