FUTMINNA VC FLAGS OFF MAPLE SOFTWARE TRAINING

In view of the need to attach training to procurement, the Vice- Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, recently flagged off a 4-day Maple Software training at the SNEPCO/ITS Information Research Centre, Main campus, Gidan Kwano.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Akanji said the training was geared towards training staff on how to use the Mathematical Software, Maple, which was procured newly by the University. The VC said the university can spend a lot of money to purchase equipment but if staff are not trained and encouraged to use them, it will amount to waste, adding that the university will not hesitate to do anything that will move it forward.
While thanking the trainers who were drawn from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, National Mathematical Centre, Abuja and Engineers from Tangiya International Company for their sacrifice, Prof. Akanji revealed that in the latest ranking of universities, FUT, Minna is now number 5 in Nigeria while it has also moved from 67th to 56th position in Africa.

He attributed the feat to the numerous trainers who have been imparting on the University and added that it would be the beginning of partnership between the trainers and the University."This University will be great and we depend on people who are ready to do assignment for the University" He echoed.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the efforts of the Anchor of the training, Prof. Oluwole Morenikeji for his commitment towards the training.
Speaking earlier, one of the trainers, Prof. Benjamin Oyelami from the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja while giving an overview of the software said Maple software is the number one leading mathematical software in the world which has an edge over others because of the introduction of symbolic programming and its test and evaluation facilities which can be used to access large number of students.

He further disclosed that maple also develops simulation and animation while the Maplesim which is a special software designed by people in Engineering field is used by great automobile companies and scientists all around the world.

The training was attended my various mathematically inclined departments including Directors and Head of Departments.
