Rumours of New Ebola Cases in Lagos – The government of Lagos has shutdown a website in which the fake report on new cases of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, originated while it has set in motion measures to prosecute originators of the rumours.
Meanwhile, the state government yesterday confirmed that two Nigerian volunteers, returning from Liberia, were taken to the Mainland Hospital in Yaba and had remained negative to the EVD for more than two weeks.

Debunking the claims of new cases of the Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria at a press conference jointly held by the Commissioners of Health, Information and Strategy and Special Duties in Lagos, the health Commissioner, Dr Jide Idris urged Nigerians to disregard the rumour claiming that three people, who just returned from Liberia, died of the disease and infected 12 others.
His words, “Definitely we will take punitive measures against them. This is against public health law and this is why we have investigated properly before coming up with this press conference. We are discussing with the State Ministry of Justice on the proper way to go about it.”
“We need to use this medium to implore our people to stop spreading false rumours because they have their negative implications.”
