Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and outgoing Minister of Agriculture, Akinwunmi
Adeshina met with South African
President, Jacob Zuma today. According to a statement by the former VP's office, Atiku is
in South Africa on the instance of the President-elect, Buhari,
to commence lobby for the candidacy of Dr Akinwumi Adesina as President
of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
"His Excellency former Vice President Atiku Abubakar met President Zuma
in the company of Dr Akinwumi Adesina during which the directive of
President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari was conveyed to Zuma,” the
statement said. “The issue of South Africa and the Southern African
region support for Nigeria’s candidate was exhaustively discussed and
well appreciated.” the statement read in part
