Clinical trials are research studies that explore whether a medical strategy, treatment, or device is safe and effective for humans.Disclosing this, yesterday, in Lagos during 3rd Nigerian Annual Clinical Trial Summit with the theme: ‘Advancing Global Clinical Trials in the West African Sub region,’ the Director-General of the Agency, further disclosed that it has inaugurated a 30–man Clinical Trial Technical Working Group with a view to strengthening its regulatory capacity in clinical trial as well as broaden access of Nigerians to new drugs.

According to him, Nigeria can no longer afford to continue to be small player within the clinical research community. He said the goal of the Agency is to make Nigeria a clinical trial destination hub in the world.

Reeling out the benefits of clinical research to the development of the health sector and to the patients, Orhii urged Nigerians not to see participants in clinical research as scapegoats rather as a way of contributing to the science of prevention, diagnoses and treatment of diseases.
