The Cross River State Government has donated Books covering all subject
areas to the University of Calabar International Demonstration Secondary
School (UCIDSS) and Staff School (USS) for use by Students and their
Teachers.
Presenting the books in brief ceremonies held at both Esu Ejemot Hall of
the UCIDSS and the Assembly Hall of USS, the Cross River State
Commissioner for Education, Prof. Offiong E. Offiong said that it was
with great emotion that he presents the books considering that UCIDSS
was conceived over twenty years ago by ASUU which he was a member.
Prof. Offiong said the government of Cross River State was proud to
identify with the successes achieved so far by both Schools adding that
beyond supporting public schools in the state it was important to also
recognize other privately owned schools who have contributed to raise
the bar of academic excellence.
The Commissioner stressed that encouraging a reading culture among
students at all levels remains one of the key objectives of the Liyel
Imoke administration, hence the donation, to adequately equip the
Libraries which he noted, will increase the competences of both Teachers
and Students if put to proper use.
He commended the University of Calabar management for maintaining
academic standards even as he pledged government's continued support for
schools in the state.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof.
James Epoke stated that he was particularly happy to see that the seed
which was planted about twenty years ago has blossomed into a full grown
tree, noting that the unprecedented successes recorded by Unical
International Demonstration Secondary School and the high standard
exhibited by Unical Staff School was as a result of hard work which led
to management's decision to fully integrate them into mainstream
administration of the Institution
While thanking the government of Cross River State for her gesture,
Prof. Epoke assured that the books will be put to proper use by teachers
and students, so as to realized full benefits in line with the core
vision of management.
