The Department of Library and
Information Sciences in the, Faculty of Communication and Information
Sciences (CIS), University of Ilorin, has held a send-off party in
honour of a Carnegie Fellow, Prof. I. S. Y. Ajiferuke, who served at the
Department.
Speaking at the event, the
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), who
was represented by the Director, Centre for International Education
(CIE), Prof. M.O. Ibrahim, said that the University is very happy with
the fellow that brought him to the University and would want the link to
continue, adding that the University of Ilorin is keen on its
internationalization drive.
In their separate remarks, staff ,
colleagues and friends of the Library and Information Sciences
Department present at the event, eulogized the virtues of the honouree,
who within 90 days of his stay, had contributed immensely to the
academic growth of the University of Ilorin as a whole.
Dr. (Mrs.) A.O. Idowu described the
honouree as accommodating, patient and unassuming, adding that he goes
about his affairs in a gentle way. She however reminded the honouree
that the University of Ilorin is a good University, where you do not say
good bye but “you are always welcome back”.
In his remarks, the Chairman , Unilorin
Bulletin Editorial Board , Dr. L.A. Azeez, commended the honouree's hard
work, adding,“I don't know how someone can spend 90 days in a place and
within the short time became more popular than many he met on grand. I
think it is about the innate quality he has. I encourage you (honouree)
to continue in this way so that you can continue to be an academic
celebrity”.
Earlier, the Head of the Department of
Library and Information Sciences, Dr. A.O. Issa, who appreciated Prof.
Ajiferuke for accepting to come to the University, said that the
honouree on arrival hit the ground running and has contributed immensely
to the success story of the Postgraduate scholars in the Department.
In his response, Prof. Ajiferuke, said
that his coming to the University is a win-win situation and not just a
one-way-win situation, adding that it is a plus for scholars from any
university to come to the University of Ilorin.
The Carnegie scholar, who disclosed that
he enjoyed his stay in the University, added, “I am very happy that
people appreciated what I have done and I also appreciated what I have
got. I thank the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. AbdulGaniyu
Ambali and his management team, the Librarian in particular, Dr. J.O.
Omoniyi, the Dean of the Faculty, the Head of the Department of Library
and Information Sciences, and other staff and students of the University
for their accommodation and hospitality”.
Also present at the event were the
University Librarian, Dr. J. O. Omoniyi, the Dean of the Faculty of
Communication and Information Services, Prof. J.S. Sadiku; the former
Dean of the Faculty, Prof. L.O. Aina; the Heads of the Departments of
Telecommunications and Mass-Communication, staff of the Department of
Library and Information Sciences, as well as staff and friends of the
Department.
