Unilorin VC commends students on NASA project
Students of the University of Ilorin taking part in the 2nd NASA International Space Apps Challenge, have been commended and enjoined to come out tops in the programme.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), who gave the commendation last Thursday (April 16, 2015) at the commencement of the challenge, described the participants at the project as 'talents'.
Prof. Ambali, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Technology and Innovations (RTI), Prof. Gabriel Olatunji, counselled the students to take the project seriously and justify the support the University administration has given to it.
He said, “You are wonderful brains. You need to put in your best to get to the international level. The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RTI) will do everything to promote the concept. We also enjoin you to become a trainer of others.”
The International Space Apps Challenge is an international mass collaboration focused on space exploration that takes place over 48-hours in cities around the world.
The event embraces collaborative problem solving with a goal of producing relevant open-source solutions to address global needs that are applicable to both life on planet Earth and life in space.
This year’s edition has over 25 challenges in four areas: Earth, Outer Space, Humans and Robotics. NASA is leading this global collaboration along with a number of government collaborators and over 100 local organising teams across the globe.
