According to a letter signed by the
Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa, a copy of which
was made available to Unilorin Bulletin, the re-appointment, which is
for a period of three years, took effect from Wednesday, April 8, 2015.
The letter reads, “I am pleased to
inform you that in consonance with the Provisions of the Public
Complaints Commission Act P37, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004,
approval has been given by the National Assembly for your re-appointment
as Public Complaints Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Following this, Prof. Abubakre and the
other 36 Commissioners for the remaining 35 states and the FCT, were
inaugurated on April 8, 2015 at the National Assembly Auditorium.
The Public Complaints Commission was
established in 1975 with a clear mandate of restoring the dignity of
man, enthronement of rule of law and protection of the
individual/organization from all sorts of injustice, particularly in
administrative matters.
In a chat with Unilorin Bulletin, Prof.
Abubakre described his re-appointment as “kindness of God who alone
bestows every good thing in every mortal and to the culture of the
University of Ilorin where I have spent about 70 percent of my adult
life. This is more so since half of the Commissioners from the South
West zone were not re-appointed”.
