acquisition programme designed for students in tertiary institutions in
Nigeria to bridge the gap between theory and practice in courses such as
Engineering and Technology, Sciences, Agriculture, Management and other

Dr. Arokoyo stressed the need to
de-emphasise white collar job and give adequate attention and due
respect to technical and other skilled job sub-sectors such as plumbing
and other vocations. She said that these are relevant to the daily
existence and important in reducing the incidence of unemployment in
Nigeria, adding that if Nigeria is sincere about developing her economy,
it needs to develop her people.

orientation, the Director of the University of Ilorin SIWES Unit, Prof.
S.H.A Umoh, said that SIWES is meant to help students acquire practical
experiences at an industrial scale, which they cannot acquire in the
course of their education within the University system.
Prof. Umoh noted that SIWES “exposes
students to work methods and techniques of handling equipment and
machinery that may not be available in the Universities” and added that
the programme makes the transition from the university to the world of
work easier in addition to enhancing the contacts of students towards
getting job placement in the future.

its support for the SIWES Unit in the discharge of its mandate over the
years and also registered his appreciation to the Industrial Training
Fund for cooperation in all SIWES matters.
